Fall is Here
We are thankful to see your child(ren) every day! They are excited to come to school and enjoy learning. Please reach out to me with questions you may have about your child’s education. We are very fortunate to have teachers who care about their students and want to see them flourish academically and socially/emotionally.

Student Expectations at Games

Please remember that it is a privilege for our students to participate in athletics and activities. It is also a privilege for students to attend events and support their peers. When our students attend a home athletic event or activity, it is the responsibility of the parents to make sure their child(ren) are sitting down with them. Please do not allow your child(ren) to run around during these events as it does create a safety issue. Students who are asked more than once, may be asked to leave the event or activity.

Students at Games CHEER!

Ready, Set, Walk!

Wednesday, October 9th is walk to school day! Please have your child at the front of Brewed Awakening by 7:25 AM to walk with a group to the school!

BOCES Vision and Hearing Screening

On Wednesday, October 2nd, BOCES staff will be at the elementary school checking vision and hearing of students in grades K-3rd, 5th, students who are new to the school, and those who receive services from NE BOCES. If your child wears glasses, please make sure he/she wears them on this day!

Fire Safety Week

We are excited to work with the local fire department again this year during fire safety week. On Tuesday, October 8th, students in Kindergarten, First , and Second grade will be transported to the new fire hall to learn about fire prevention and safety.

Classified Appreciation Week - October 14th

Our students and staff are so thankful to have our classified staff on our team. We have paraprofessionals who work one on one with students and others who help in our English as a Second Language (ESL) department. We have a multitasking secretary who has crazy moments throughout every day and two amazing custodians who keep our building nice and clean. Bus drivers are the first to greet our students in the morning and say goodbye at the end of the day. Our maintenance staff ensures we have air conditioning and/or heat and keep the grounds clean. The staff at the administration office help with orders and answer questions. We appreciate each and everyone one of you and all you do!

Parent Teacher Conferences

On Friday, October 25th, we will have Parent Teacher Conferences from 8 AM to noon and 1 PM to 4 PM. This is a change from what was originally scheduled due to a conflict with a home volleyball and football game that afternoon and evening. The original time for conferences was noon to 8 PM. Elementary conference times are scheduled and will be sent out around the first and second week in October. If the scheduled time does not work for you, please call Mrs. Juarez at (970) 854-3411, at your earliest convenience to schedule a different time.

Homecoming Parade - October 3rd at 2 PM

At 2 PM on Thursday, October 3rd, the JH/HS will have their homecoming parade. We ask that if you are wanting your child to ride in the parade, you will need to sign them out in the front office. Students who are not signed out, will not leave. If you are having someone else pick up your child and sign your child out, your child will need a signed note from you indicating the person who will be signing your child out.  (Example: I give permission for my child, ___(first and last name), to go with ____(first and last name) on Thursday, October 3rd. (Please print your name and include your signature.) We ask for your patience and understanding especially on this day.

Monthly Attendance

Holyoke ELementary School will start sending home monthly attendance letters with students in their take home folder. Please know if your child has more than 4 missed school days in a month or if your child has up to 7 unexcused absences, you might also receive a call. It is important to us that your child is at school as much as possible.

There are four main reasons for children and adults to stay home:

  1. The child or staff member could infect others with a contagious illness, either because of symptoms, a diagnosis, or recent exposure to a contagious illness.

  2. The child or staff member does not feel well enough to take part in usual activities. For example, a child is overly tired, fussy, or will not stop crying.

  3. A child needs more care than teachers and staff can give while still caring for the other children.

  4. The child or staff member has symptoms or an illness on this list, and staying home is required.

Halloween

Halloween falls on Thursday, October 31st this year. We will have a costume parade through our gym for parents to view the students in their costumes. Students will be allowed to change into their costumes at 2:45 PM. Parents will be allowed in the gym at 2:55 PM. Please make sure your child can put on his or her own costume with no additional help. No blood or weapons are allowed as part of the costume.

Assessment Information

Holyoke Elementary School decided to wait for students to get familiar with their new teacher and expectations before having students take their beginning of the year NWEA and DIBELS assessments. We saw good growth and an accurate picture of our students when looking at the data. We will share the assessment data with you during parent teacher conferences on Friday, October 25th between 8 AM and 4 PM.

Drop off and pick up

Please use yellow zones for dropping kids off. Do NOT park in the yellow zones. If you want to walk your child to the front door of the school, please park in a parking spot and not the yellow zones.

After school, please make sure to pull over in a parking spot to pick up your child. We have staff helping fill in as a crossing guard, so please let them help your son or daughter cross the street.
